As a comparative, interdisciplinary, and intersectional field, Asian American Studies draws inspiration from and collaborates with allied units at OSU:
- African American and African Studies at The Ohio State University is a proud product of the 1960s Black freedom movement. Originally established as an academic division in October 1969 as Black Studies, it achieved formal department status in 1972 and today enjoys the reputation of being one of the strongest African American and African Studies programs in the nation.
- American Indian Studies strives to further the long and ongoing traditions of American Indians in Ohio through our programming, course offerings, undergraduate minor, and collaborations with other programs in the Center for Ethnic Studies.
- The Ohio State University Disability Studies Program, established in 1997, emphasizes interdisciplinary and intersectional work in disability studies. We treat disability as a political, cultural and social process, placing as much importance on structures, relations and representations as on individual bodies.
- At the Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity, we produce the bold, evidence-based research concepts that changemakers across the country use to drive prosperity and possibility for every community.
- As part of the Center for Ethnic Studies, the Latinx Studies program offers a minor and a graduate specialization with critical analysis of the experiences, histories, and cultures of the multiethnic, multiracial, and multilingual population of U.S. Latinxs.
- Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) is an interdisciplinary field of research and teaching that places gender, and its intersection with sexuality, at the center of inquiry. It raises many questions about gender and sexuality as socially and culturally constructed phenomena that affect our personal lives, artistic expression, social relationships, and the ways we think about ourselves and the world.
