Moving Memories: In the Absence/Presence of Queer Bangladeshi Voices

A branch made from hair, with birds and a nest on it.
November 21, 2022
2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Hopkins Gallery

Panelists: Ata Mojlish, Efadul Huq, Rasel Ahmed

In this artist/activist talk, the co-makers of Moving Memories: In the Absence/Presence of Queer Bangladeshi Voices exhibit will talk about archive as a contested site of colonial trauma, nationalist myth making, and its queer reimagination by decentering catalogization of the archive and replacing it with intimacy, care, and collaborative artmaking. The exhibition reactivates a 2021 oral history project that tells narratives of queer displacement and homemaking of Bangladeshi queer migrants residing in the U.S.

The oral histories animated by this exhibit were created in collaboration with South Asian American Digital Archive (SAADA) and Queer Archives of the Bengal Delta (QABD).

This event is co-sponsored by Asian American Studies (AAS), South-Asian Studies Initiative (SASI), Dept. of Theatre, Film, and Media Arts (TFMA), and Dept. of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS).
