Denton specializes in modern Chinese fiction and literary criticism, and has published mostly in these areas. He is currently working on a study of museums and exhibitionary culture in Greater China. He regularly teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in modern Chinese literature and film. His interest in Asian American Studies is primarily in the area of film—he irregularly offers a course in Asian American film.
