2011-2012 in Retrospect

2011 - 2012 was a fine year for Asian American Studies at OSU.

First, congratulations to our graduating minors: Yuri Doolan, Ronald Holgado, and Juwon Lee! We wish them the best in their future endeavors.

The Asian American Studies program organized and co-sponsored a number of academic and cultural events. Below are some highlights from the past year.

AAS affiliates have also been very busy engaged in research, teaching and learning, service, and winning awards. Below are some highlights of their accomplishments over the past year.

Finally, it is a delight to announce that Professor Judy Wu will be taking over the reins as coordinator of AAS in 2012 - 2013. We thank her for accepting this leadership role and wish her the best!

  • I was invited to write an autobiographical reflection on my experience with the adult adoptee and adoptive family community for Adoption Today. The article, "Connecting to My Story Through Adoption Community Connection," was published in their March 2012 issue.
  • I was invited to give a keynote speech at The 14th Annual Korean American Adoption Family Network Conference in Albany NY this July.
  • I guest lectured on the adult Korean American adoptee experience in Dr. Cynthia Callahan's course "Transracial Adoption in American Literature and Culture" at the OSU - Mansfield campus.
  • I presented my work at AAAS and the Alliance for the Study of Adoption and Culture conference.

  • I was selected to participate in the Preparing Future Faculty Program for the 2012/2013 academic year. My mentor is Dr. Taku Suzuki, Department of International Studies, Denison University.
  • I co-hosted the Spring Festival (Lunar New Year) celebration for the Central Ohio Families with Children from China.
