Summer Job for Vietnamese/Asian American Student

Posted on: 04/23/2006

Hello Everyone!

I've pasted a job notice from a friend at the end of this message. She's an adoptive Mom to two amazing Vietnamese American kids who need a summer nanny+role model. Marcy has worked with Vietnamese American college students and new grads who've filled this position in the past. They had a blast with the kids and the experience was fulfilling for all involved. Please pass this on to anyone who might be interested. Thank you!

FUN 2006 SUMMER LIVE-IN NANNY POSITION

Start around June 15th. If necessary, could arrange to start soon
after school is out and finish no later than August 15. Somewhat
flexible on exact start and finish dates but it will be a two-month
commitment.

We live in Cincinnati, Ohio but will travel to a lake house we have in
Northern Michigan at the end of June and will be there until early
August. The house is in a resort community north of Traverse City in
Leelanau County. The nanny will spend some time working with us in Cincinnati and the rest up in Michigan.

I am a 47 year-old single Mom with two amazing children and an amazing small dog (Blaze.) My son Jesse will turn 9 on September 9th and my daughter Sophie will turn 6 on August 15th. I adopted each of the children from HoChiMinhCity, Vietnam when they were 6 months old. My 80-year-old mother, their Ga-Ga, will also live with us when we are in Michigan. So we will have three generations in our house for the summer. We all get along very well overall, the kids adore their Ga-Ga and my Mom is my best friend.

I am looking for someone to become part of our family and help care
for my kids. Obviously, being 3 years apart, they have different abilities and interests. It means so much when I can spend time
individually with each of them. It is also important that I get free
time to enjoy my summer. Ga-Ga helps out as she can but she does not have the stamina to handle two active little ones during their waking hours.

The schedule will not be the same each day or week. It will depend on what comes up. Your work/play week will average around 55 hours, with time off each day and one whole day off each week. If there is a need for other time off it can be discussed but this is a fulltime childcare commitment for the summer. Pay will be around $400 a week depending on your experience. All room, board, and travel expenses will also be covered.

Looking for someone special:

- with strong childcare/babysitting experience, especially with more
than one child of preschool and early grade school ages

- with a playful imagination since both children are very creative and
love pretend play, art, and reading books

- who is a good swimmer

- who is active and enjoys the outdoors.

- who is a driver in good standing

- In Michigan there are opportunities for the kids to learn how to
play golf, tennis, soccer, other ball sports and bike riding - ability
and interest in some of these areas would be helpful.

An added bonus would be a young adult who meets all of these
requirements and who is Vietnamese American or of other Asian descent. I really want my kids to understand and be proud of their birth heritage. A young adult role model/caregiver would be great for them.

If this summer childcare position sounds of interest to you, please
call me at home, 513-321-8825 or e-mail me at marcyw@witt.com. If you are calling from out of town, I can call you right back on my dollar. I really try to make summer magical for our family. I hope you will want to share in the magic.
