The United Way of Central Ohio is seeking an Assistant Critical Need Area Director in our Community Impact Department. This position would be responsible for assisting the Directors of Health and Education in shaping and coordinating United Way’s response to the Health and Education critical need areas. Responsibilities include: assisting in gathering, maintaining, analyzing and interpreting data related to vision council objectives and funded programs; assisting with grantwriting and other resource development efforts to generate financial support; developing relationships and participating in meetings with local human service agencies, community groups, and key stakeholders in the areas of education and health.
A Master’s degree with 2-4 years’ experience in human service preferred; knowledge of health/education fields of study preferred; strong problem solving skills; excellent communication skills – oral and written; ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously; and a thorough appreciation of and commitment to diversity. JOB TITLE: Assistant Critical Need Area Director
Reports To: Director of Health
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Director of Health, Director of Education & SVP of Community Impact
JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for assisting the Directors of Health & Education in shaping and coordinating United Way’s response to the Health & Education critical need areas, as well as assisting with tasks and projects related to United Way’s community impact efforts.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assists the Directors of Health & Education with a wide range of activities, tasks, and projects related to the Health & Education critical need areas.
2. Assists the Directors of Health & Education in gathering, maintaining, analyzing and interpreting programmatic, fiscal, outcome, and indicator data related to vision council tasks, projects, funded programs and initiatives.
3. Supports the Directors of Health & Education in researching and assessing best practices relative to identified UW objectives, strategies and initiatives.
4. Assists with grant writing and other resource development efforts to generate the financial support required to implement and sustain initiatives developed by the Health & Education Vision Councils.
5. Assists Directors of Health & Education in developing reports and materials and in planning, preparing for, and conducting Vision Council meetings and related committee meetings.
6. Establishes contacts with and participates in meetings and dialogue with local human service agencies, community groups, and key stakeholders in the areas of education and health on behalf of the two critical need areas.
7. Assists in reporting related to grants, initiatives & other special projects.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Master’s degree and 2 – 4 years’ experience in a human service field preferred. Knowledge of health and/or education fields of study preferred.
2. Knowledge of the local human services community and local human services issues; general understanding of broader, more global human services issues.
3. Ability to articulate and interpret the various elements of United Way’s Strategic Vision.
4. Excellent analytical ability; must be able to collect, analyze, manipulate, interpret, report and utilize data.
5. Strong problem solving skills.
6. Thorough appreciation of and commitment to diversity.
7. Excellent communication skills - written, verbal and presentation.
8. Demonstrates clear purpose, enthusiasm and dedication to achieving community impact. Takes actions consistent with organizational standards, values, and ethics.
9. Ability to appropriately interpret policy.
10. Ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously, to balance a varied workload, and work productively and effectively with all staff.
11. Ability to be self directed -- position requires flexibility, reliability, consistency and good follow-through.
12. Must be computer literate; must be familiar with word-processing and spreadsheet software. Familiarity with presentation software, data base management software and project management software desirable. Internet familiarity essential.
