Posted on: 02/19/2006
Call for Supernumeraries for the Opera Columbus Production of
Madama Butterfly
Perform onstage as a Supernumerary! No singing, dancing, or speaking required! Join us onstage in Giacomo Puccini’s Madama Butterfly.
Performance Dates:
March 24, 26, 30, April 1 at Mershon Auditorium on the campus of The Ohio State University.
Opera Columbus is seeking four Asian men ages 18-50 who will portray both Madama Butterfly’s house servants and Prince Yamadori’s attendants. If you are interested in performing as a Supernumerary in Madama Butterfly, or have any questions about being a super, please contact: Kevin R. Lohr, Director of Production 614-461-8101 x15, klohr@operacolumbus.org, or Grace Chen at
614-793-3162, 614-793-9405 (Fax). Please be aware that supernumerary roles are limited and are cast at the discretion of the stage director. Opera Columbus may not be able to cast all people who apply.
WHAT IS A SUPERNUMERARY?
Supernumeraries are people of all ages who share the stage with operatic artists. “Supers” volunteer their time and act as “extras” on the stage. They play soldiers, servants, townspeople, nuns, gypsies, and other important stage-filling roles. Opera Columbus is a company of many talented artists, including world-famous singers, chorus singers, dancers, orchestra musicians, designers, directors, and conductors. Working along side these artists are professional stagehands, technicians, and SUPERNUMERARIES! A Super’s enthusiasm and cooperation is an important part of the Company’s great spirit and plays a vital role in the success of a production.
One of the most beloved operas of all time, Madama Butterfly never fails to move with its dramatic, emotional tale of clashing cultures and maternal sacrifice, accompanied by some of Puccini’s most stirring music. The Columbus Orchestra will support a stellar roster of singers whose vocal artistry will leave audiences breathless.
